Having issues with notification sounds on some Android device?

Some amigos have complained about not receiving alert sounds from the Footy Amigo app on their android device. So, we’ve created this post to help show you how to resolve it.  The sound issue is not from Footy Amigo’s app, it’s from the specific device and we hope this guide can help you resolve it.

Xiaomi: Why is no popup displayed and no sound emitted when new messages arrive?

MIUI 11

In MIUI 11, some notification settings are disabled by default for Footy Amigo, and, unfortunately, there’s no way for the app to enable them. However, you can adjust these settings as follows:

  • Tap on “MIUI settings”
  • Enable all (or the desired) notification settings for Footy Amigo:
    • Show notifications
    • Show app icon badges
    • Floating notifications
    • Lock screen notifications
    • Allow sound
    • Allow vibration
    • Allow using LED light

MIUI 10

If an app like Footy Amigo creates a notification channel in MIUI 10, only vibration can be enabled as notification signal, all other signals (heads-up, sound, notification light, etc.) are disabled by default and must be enabled manually.

Please enable notification signals as follows:

  • Open “MIUI Settings”
  • Open the first entry in the Chats section
  • Enable all settings (Floating Notifications, Lock Screen Notifications, Sound, etc.)
  • Return to the previous screen, and repeat the procedure for all other entries in the Chats section

When a new notification channel is added (i.e., when you start using a new combination of notification settings), you will also need to enable that channel’s notification settings as outlined above.

Due to restrictions by Xiaomi, there is no way for Footy Amigo to automatically adjust the notification-channel settings for you. For some selected apps, Xiaomi has enabled all notification signals by default. Please get in touch with Xiaomi to learn more.

Problems with push notifications on Samsung devices

Android 9

If your Samsung device runs Android 9 and you experience problems with push notifications, please perform the following steps:

  1. Navigate to “Settings > Device care > Battery”, and tap “⋮” in the top right corner
  2. Set all switches to the “off” position in the “App power management” section, but leave the “Notification” switch “on”
  3. Tap “Sleeping apps”, and delete “Footy Amigo” from the list (if present): Tap the trash-can icon, select “Footy Amigo”, and confirm by tapping “Remove”
  4. Set the “Optimize settings” switch in the “Settings power optimization” section to the “off” position

Future OS updates might reset these adjustments, and you might have to perform the steps listed above again.

Android 7

If you experience problems with push notifications on a Samsung device running Android 7, please perform the following steps:

  • Navigate to “Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Power saving mode”, and turn off “Power saving mode” (or adjust the MID saving mode to enable background data usage)
  • Navigate to “Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > … > Advanced settings” and turn off “App power monitor”
  • Navigate to “Settings > Device maintenance > Battery > Battery usage > … > Optimise battery usage”, select “All apps” in the drop-down menu, and set the switch next to “Footy Amigo” to “off”
  • Navigate to “Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Advanced”, and set “Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep” to “always”
  • Navigate to “Settings > Apps > Footy Amigo > Mobile data” and enable “Allow background data usage”

Should the problem persist after you have completed the steps listed above, please follow the general troubleshooting instructions.
